Post Title:                 Deputy Head of Pre-Preparatory School

Reporting Line:       Head of Preschool

The Board of Governors is now seeking an exceptional Deputy Head of Pre-Preparatory school from October 2019. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our school into the next important stage of our development and growth, which will include the continued expansion of the Preschool campuses across HKSAR.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding educationalist with the experience and strategic skills to inspire our diverse community and lead our high performing senior team. Warm and engaging, our next Head will combine academic ambition with a commitment to inclusion and will bring the wisdom to balance change with continuity and consolidation. A track record of successful school leadership is essential as is a genuine resonance with Mount Kelly’s distinctive ethos and values.

Our Pre-Prep in Hong Kong will promote educational excellence and tradition through a forward-thinking, all-round curriculum within which the needs of individual pupils are fostered. Pre-Prep School pupils will be given a priority in Admissions through to the Mount Kelly Preparatory School, which opened in September 2017.

The Pre-Prep will offer the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which offers a wide range of opportunities for learning. Preparation for the children’s future education is thorough and our timetable offers a balance of structured play and small group activities. The children are assigned a Key teacher who is responsible for planning and teaching the children individually. Each child has a Learning Journey which starts when they enter the Pre-Prep and follows their progress all the way through to the end of the Reception year.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • The Deputy Head of Pre-Prep will ensure that the best possible environment and day to day care and education is provided for young children to the highest possible standards.
  • Ensure knowledge and training is up to date as required by legislation and best practice.
  • To fulfil legal and statutory requirements and appoint, assist Head of Pre-Prep to lead and manage Pre-Prep staff.
  • To develop a strong ethos for the Pre-Prep School.
  • To contribute to the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of the Pre-Prep.
  • To be responsible for high standards of care and education of children in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • To oversee and take overall responsibility for the day to day management, organisation and smooth running of the Pre-Prep.
  • To ensure the curriculum is promoted and delivered within the setting and its principles are adhered to.
  • To understand policies and procedure requirements and take responsibility for their planning, monitoring and implementation.
  • To have an informed understanding and keep up to date with statutory requirements and best practice in childcare.
  • To be the lead person for Child Protection, undertaking appropriate training and ensuring any child protection concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately.
  • To undertake at all times to be a discreet, loyal and entirely confidential.

 

Leadership

  • To be responsible for the management and monitoring of the Pre-Prep staff and their performance.
  • To identify staff training needs and facilitate training opportunities.
  • To organise and lead regular staff meetings.
  • Promote the well-being of the staff to maximise their professional contribution and satisfaction.
  • To have a high regard for the appearance and culture of the Pre-Prep including the behaviour, discipline and attitude of the children and the staff.
  • To liaise closely with the direct line manager, the Headmistress.

 

Education

  • To implement and review the EYFS curriculum in conjunction with best practice.
  • To create an environment that puts safety, enjoyment and achievement at the heart of all that it does.
  • To role model all areas of Pre-Prep school life in the teaching and learning for the children.
  • To order and maintain equipment and resources in the Pre-Prep to the highest level.
  • To ensure up to date records of all children are maintained.
  • To work with a wide range of other agencies and settings as required.
  • To work closely with parents and give regular and informed feedback about their child’s development and overall progress.

 

Communication

  • Working in partnership with Parents and Families.
  • To ensure effective communication between the staff, parents and Mount Kelly School Hong Kong is understood by all staff.
  • To work to ensure that constructive working relationships are maintained between staff, pupils and parents.
  • Work to ensure effective relationships with Mount Kelly School Hong Kong.
  • To promote and represent the Pre-Prep as appropriate.
  • To promote the ethos of the Pre-Prep to all stakeholders

Support the Headmistress in all operations activities as directed to ensure a successful school opening and subsequent growth.

Job requirement

  • Holds a Certification for Kindergarten Principal;
  • Experience in education management (current Head Teacher/Vice-Principal are welcome to apply);
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills;
  • Able to work within a distributed leadership framework that supports team and individual growth;
  • Commitment to an on-going professional learning and inquiry;
