Assessment Tips

20 Apr 2020 General, Babies and Toddlers, Preschool, Preparatory and College

Looking to join a new school? Read our helpful tips when going through assessment. It doesn't have to be a scary process.

INTERVIEW FORMAT AND PROCESS

Do learn about the assessment and interview format and process so that you can prepare your child in a supportive way. If you can explain the purpose and process of what is going to happen during the assessment, this will help to put your child at ease beforehand.

GET FAMILIAR WITH THE SCHOOL

Do visit the school with your child in advance, if you can, so that your child is familiar with the building. This will help to build a feeling of excitement about the school and create a more positive experience for your child.

AVOID PRACTICING

Don’t do a practice assessment or interview beforehand as this may make your child come across as unnatural or coached. It’s ok to discuss what will happen during the assessment but we would like to see what your child is able to do independently.

LET YOUR CHILD BE THEMSELVES

Do encourage your child to be confident and polite but also to be themselves. Let them be their natural self and enjoy the experience.

CONGRATULATE YOUR CHILD!

Do smile and encourage your child before the assessment. Try not to show any anxiety you may be feeling. Afterwards, be a proud parent and give your child a hug to say well done!
